Is Your Power of Attorney Still Valid? A Quick Guide

In Sri Lanka, a Power of Attorney (POA) executed by a private individual is generally valid for five years from the date it is signed, unless the document specifically states a different validity period.

However, a Power of Attorney may come to an end earlier if it is revoked or cancelled by the Principal in accordance with the law.

This five-year limitation does not apply to Powers of Attorney granted by State institutions.
