Can You Cancel a Power of Attorney in Sri Lanka?

Yes. A Power of Attorney (POA) can be revoked at any time by the person who granted it.

To cancel a POA, the Principal must execute a formal revocation document before a Notary Public (or before a Sri Lankan diplomatic or consular officer if executed overseas) and submit it for registration with the Registrar General’s Department.

If the cancellation needs to take effect immediately, the Principal may first file a notice of intention to revoke with the Registrar General. This temporary notice remains valid for three months, within which the formal revocation must be completed.

Properly revoking a Power of Attorney ensures that the appointed person no longer has the legal authority to act on your behalf.
